SURFACES & EDGES

The workedface.

Every stone leaves the yard with a surface and an edge that were chosen, not defaulted. Sixteen finishes and four edge profiles cover the range the trade specifies. Each one below is photographed on the stone itself, at the yard.

SIXTEEN FINISHES

From smoothto textured.

The order runs smooth to textured. Sawn and honed at one end, riven, rockfaced, and hand-chiseled at the other. Where a finish carries more than one photograph, the thumbnails expand.

Natural Riven

The stone's own face.

The natural cleft face, left as the stone splits along its bed. Characterful and naturally textured, with the grip and variation that only riven stone carries. A traditional choice for gardens and patios.
